Behind the Scenes

Tonight is Your Last Night

Tonight will be our last day of filming CMT “Making the Team” for season 7.  I must admit, that I can’t believe I’m actually feeling sad to see our friends from Triage & CMT for the last day.

Since May, Peter, Mitch and Leland have followed us around like a shadow.   We’ve been mic’d, poked, prodded, OTF’d and asked to wait for “camera repo” for 7 months now.  I’ve had more men in my blouse and up my skirt than Snookie.  (Taping microphones to my bra!)

We’ve shared a lot of laughs and experienced many intense moments as  “Making the Team” unfolded around us.  Each night our studio was filled with ladders, lights and cameras as a daily reminder that a DCC rehearsal was SPECIAL, and was slowly captivating a national audience.

Peter and Mitch work as a pair much like me and Judy.  They finish each other’s sentences and sometimes duplicate each other’s work only to ensure the best possible show for broadcast.  Leland is the quiet behind the scenes guy (much like DCC’s own Dan Devens) making sure everything runs smoothly, on time, and efficiently …or heads will roll…

We are so used to having you around at rehearsals that we won’t know what to do with our space without you.  I’m so used to having 3 men and a microphone in my office, that it will feel empty when you leave.

Our organization is better since you invaded my office 7 years ago…From Rookie Hair Makeovers to Uniform Fittings to the first night of jump splits, you molded our curriculum into a story that the nation now enjoys.

You’ve become a part of our team.  You’ve helped expand the awareness of our program and the great things the girls do.  You’ve helped a country full of viewers get to share in the dream only a few ever experience.   Over the years I’ve grown to respect, the planning, writing, and preparation your most capable crew ensures to make a show successful.

Thank you for caring about the image of DCC.  Over the years I’ve seen you convert from Hollywood producers that are fueled by conflict, to caring partners who care more about the individuals who wear our uniform than a developing storyline.

We used to dread you, now we will miss you

Until next year… I’m sad that “tonight is your last night” and we will miss you!

    7. Diane LaMonica says:

as much of a perfectionist you ladies are, I nominate you to coach the football team!! I never realized being a cheerleader is more of a lifestyle than a job. Wow. Congratulatons to all the girls!!

    8. Norma Valentini says:

      Hi Kelli,
Thank you so much for sharing the DCC with us. I look forward to the show every year. You and Judy are a class act!! Congratulations to all the girls!!

    9. As I read this, I was starting to feel as if this was “The Last” episode or that Kelli might be leaving. So very glad you put that, “Until next year” part.

    10. This is why “Making The Team” is one of my favorite shows…especially when two of my friends were involved in the process.

    11. I like the show but did not enjoy it when Kelli was out and Kitty took her place. I thought it was awful to tell Jasmine that she’s pigeon toed. That is not a good reflection on DCC and the comments she makes to a lot of the girls are just mean spirited.

      • TOTALLY agree Joey. I can’t stand Kitty. An old obnoxious unprofessional hag with HORRIBLE hair and a face like a used purse.

    12. Risa Maxey says:

Thank you Judy and Kelli for taking care of my “little girl” Jackie (Jacqueline) these last 4 years as a DCC…you have helped shape her into a “pro”, you have inspired her, and you have added a wonderful dimension to her unique personality….hats off to you both for doing a fantastic job with all these girls who aspire to be the best…America’s Sweethearts…
      Best regards,
      A mom in California
      Risa

    13. Sharon York says:

Please make next season longer! Everybody loves it. Please extend the season

    14. While I do not like the dallas cowboys at all, I do (for some unknown reason) love to watch DCC making the team. Hopefully you will be back for season 8. Not looking forward to the finale next week only because I will have to wait until next year for it to be back on. Good luck with your season and please please please get rid of Kitty. She really seems to be a very bitter woman who likes to berate these girls down.

    15. I love this show and have been watching it since Season 2. This show has completely changed my impression on cheerleaders and now I view them as beautiful accomplished athletes. The show proves that DDC Cheerleaders are true to what they claimed: ” often imitated but never equaled). I hope the show can have more episodes to include the physical training sessions, power squad and some fun outdoor activities as well. Keep up the good work: from producers, Judy, Kelli to the cheerleaders.

    16. I’m so surprised how easy going Judy and Kelli were this season. For example on the 2010-2011 season on the final night of training camp they let go of FOUR girls. For almost similar reasons that they were criticizing Emily, Terri, Chelsea, and Kim for. So what was the difference now and then? Emily seems like a sweet girl, but she should have been cut after they did opening lines. Kelli and Judy seemed way more easy going this time around and almost kind of desperate to keep some of the rookies around.

    17. I have been enjoying the season so far. I doubt a man could get away with the critiques you give the candidates throughout training camp and not get hit with a lawsuit, but your end product (team) speaks for itself. I am a KC Chiefs fan since I was old enough to watch football, but a DCC fan since I became interested in girls and their potential to become outstanding women.

    18. i love the show its fabulous…..great job…!!!
