Director's Chair

Squad Reflects Plethora of Careers, Backgrounds

As director of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, I am proud to lead a group of talented women who are remarkably educated, accomplished and diverse. We strive to select and train ladies who represent the Dallas Cowboys fan base and the nation, and part of our audition process helps us choose positive role models for young ladies of all backgrounds.

Our current squad reflects a plethora of careers and education. Out of the 39 members on this year’s team, we are proud of those who have received degrees from the universities of Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Nebraska, Florida State and LSU. Local universities attended include UNT, TCU and SMU.

Some of our more interesting degrees have been earned in foreign languages, finance, psychology and broadcast journalism. We even have a DCC with her doctorate in physical therapy!

Our youngest DCC this year is 18, and our oldest is proud to be 30.

Forty-nine percent of our team calls Texas home, while the remaining 51 percent grew up out of the state and represent Arizona, California, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina and South Dakota. We also have two members of our squad who traveled all the way from the southern hemisphere and call Australia home.

Kelli, the Dallas Cowboys do not pay you what you are worth! DCC is truly America’s and the World’s favorite cheerleader organization! It is so sad,the evil in our present culture does not allow your releasing their last names and hometown. It is suggested DCC cease promoting swimsuits while competing with Sports Illustrated and Playboy! DCC does not need that kind of marketing! Wish you would have more Bio,s of former DCC.

    2. Lisa Bennett says:

Kelli, I have a great deal of respect for you and what you do for the DCC. However, I believe you really missed the boat regarding TCC Vivian: my husband and his entire Fantasy Football league found her to be the most appealing of all the rookie candidates and couldn’t have cared less that she was short with muscular thighs. She would have represented the DCC well and you made a big mistake in letting her go. Kandi Harris had a very similar body type and added to the diversity of body types on the squad–diversity that is sadly lacking this year.

      • I completely concur with Lisa Bennett. 50000 fans thought Vivian had the right look for the DCC. She would have been an excellent addition.

    3. Christy Bryan says:

Kelli I love you and Judy and your style!!! Being a cheerleader myself, when I was in middle and highschool, the requirements and discipline that you have for DCC are awesome for what DCC stands for, Heart, Love, and Quality for the best Cheerleaders around!!! I have watched season 5,6,7 and all of 8 so far and some of the things you both have had to deal with have blown my mind because of the disrespect of some of the canidates and their attitude!!! I think that y’all do an excellent job and I would be proud to be apart of your team because it is your heart and dancing or cheering with your heart makes the team what it is today!!!! I have been a cowboys fan since I was a little girl, so I have so much respect and heart for y’all and the team!!! I love Cassi’s response to Taylor in season 6 because no matter how much you “think” you know it or don’t have to “practice” you can’t get slack and think you can talk your way through or halfway dance through and think you are good enough because that is when you have mistakes or injuries so pride needs to step out of the way and be serious!!! You both know that it is just me totally 100% agreeing with your comments and wants for the team!!!! Anyway I am looking forward to the next episode of season 8!!!!! Y’all have a blessed day!!!

      Love,
      Christy

    4. Why don’t the cheerleaders write blogs anymore? I also liked the old site where I could ask a DCC and question and she would respond back to me. I miss that..

    5. DEBBIE WATSON says:

      DEAR KELLI,
FIRST LET ME SAY THAT I THINK YOU AND JUDY ARE THE BEST. I LOVE THE DALLAS COWBOYS AND THE CHEERLEADERS WITH ALL OF MY HEART. I ENJOY WATCHING MAKING THE TEAM. I LOVE THE FACT THAT OUR GIRLS ARE NOT JUST PICKED ON BEAUTY ALONE. THEY MUST BE INTELLIGENT, AWARE OF THE COWBOYS HISTORY, FIT, BEAUTIFUL AND MOST ALL BE GOOD DANCERS. THE TRAINING CAMP IS AWESOME. IN ORDER TO REPRESENT AMERICA,S TEAM, YOU HAVE TO BE TRUE STARS, IN ORDER TO WEAR THE STARS ON YOUR UNIFORM. I AM ALSO AMAZED AT HOW BEAUTIFUL YOU AND JUDY ARE. BOTH OF YOU REPRESENT DCC SO WELL. I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE KITTY. SHE IS FAB. I LOVE HER HONESTY. DCC IS THE BEST ORGANIZATION IN THE WORLD, AND THAT IS BECAUSE OF THE PEOPLE BEHIND IT. MY DREAM CAME TRUE ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO, WHEN MY JOB SENT ME AND MY HUSBAND TO TEXAS STADIUM. IT WAS THE BEST TIME IN MY LIFE. I GOT TO SEE THE CHEERLEADERS IN PERSON. THEY WERE GREAT. I JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW KELLI, THAT HERE IN EL PASO, TEXAS, WE LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE OUR COWBOYS AND OUR CHEERLEADERS. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, AND REMEMBER I DEBBIE WATSON WILL BE WATCHING YOU. MUCH LOVE TO YOU AND MY DALLAS COWBOYS. GO BOYS!!!!!!!!!!!

    6. Kelli – Congratulations to you, Judy, Charlotte, Kitty and all of the other judges for picking an awesome team AGAIN this year! It’s obvious that you all had many difficult decisions to make, but that is why you have the best cheerleaders in the business. And.. Congrats to the girls that are now Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. I have a couple of requests. Could you post the name of the girls who are All Stars as well as the names of the group leaders and the girls who are in Show Group? I would love it if you could post the playlist of songs that you all use pre-game, during the game, half-time and after the game. I really enjoy the music and would like to add it to my playlist. Thanks for another fun year of “Making The Team.” It’s my favorite show on television. I have two left feet, so it’s fun watching true professionals. Have a good rest of your year. Take care!

    7. Sherri McFadden says:

How come the Making the Team was shorter this year and you didn’t film the calendar shoot or seeing the more personal side of the girls?

    8. Lori Gillette says:

      Kelly,
I have been watching for the 3 years. I think you and Judy do a great job. This year one Rookie really moved me and she is Morgan. I have loved her from the start. Her determination and fight was remarkable. My daughter thinks she is a great role model for girls these days. She is never gave up and reached her goal. I am now one of her biggest Fan. We don’t have a professional NFL cheerleaders in Michigan. I hope you all have great season.

    9. Liz Chavez says:

I love watching “Making of the Team” and always enjoyed seeing the squad at the stadium when I worked there. One thing one of the girls said when the rookies were giving their comments in the last show was she didn’t realize that the stadium was 5 stories high. Does the squad take a tour of the stadium? Do they have the opportunity to go sit in the top row of seats and see what the fans see from there. As a former employee of the stadium, I think it would help the squad appreciate this huge place they perform in.
