Aside from all of the wonderful things there are about being a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader, I am thankful that our team hosts a Thanksgiving Day game each year. While we don’t necessarily have a typical Thanksgiving lunch with our families, we are at our home away from home, Cowboys Stadium, with the players, coaches, staff and fans that make up our Cowboys family.
This was my fifth Thanksgiving to spend with my teammates, cheering on America’s Team and participating in the annual halftime extravaganza. This year, the stage was beautiful and Kenny Chesney put on a fabulous performance!
There were eight cubes (four on each side) leading up to the main stage, and the four leaders and four second leaders performed on the cubes. A mosh pit of fans cheered us on and sang along to Chesney’s hit songs. On the platforms next to the stage, the rest of the veterans danced, while the rookies entertained the crowd from the end-zone decks.
Chesney sang three great songs that we choreographed too, but his last one, The Boys of Fall, was an emotional finale to this year’s halftime production. Youth football players and members from a color guard company joined us on the field.
It was a great feeling to be involved in the Thanksgiving Day tradition again and kicking off The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign for my fifth season. Although we didn’t win the game, it was filled with many emotions and we all walked away truly thankful for being a part of such a wonderful organization and family.
We did the following performances:
Pregame: Thunderstruck by AC/DC
Quarter One: Sideways by Dierks Bentley
Quarter Two: Back in Time by Pitbull
Thanksgiving Halftime Show with Kenny Chesney
Quarter Three: Va Va Voom by Nicki Minaj
Quarter Four: Let it Roll by Flo Rida
Congratulations to our Planet Tan GAMEDAY GIRL, two-year veteran, Brittney Schram!
Now it’s time to prepare for our next home game on Dec. 2 against the Philadelphia Eagles. Follow me on Twitter, @DCC_Sydney, for daily updates!
