Every week of training camp is very different. Of course every single night, rehearsal begins at 7 p.m. sharp. However, most girls arrive around 6 p.m. to practice what we have previously learned, especially if it is a cut night. We usually learn about 35 new routines during the summer, so practicing at home and before rehearsal is a necessity! That alone takes up tons of time during training camp, but on top of all that, there are several day activities and opportunities to live the life of a DCC.
For example, during my rookie year, we were able to visit troops who were departing for Iraq and Afghanistan and spend a little time with them in the airport during their last few moments here in Dallas. Another group of girls got to welcome troops home. We also have workouts with Jay, our fitness instructor, and with our nutritionist Tracy on a day-to-day basis. CMT also offers many outside opportunities to do a lot of fun stuff during the day while we are in training camp. This year we got to spend a day at Speed Zone and attempt the free fall jump, which was extremely fun, but also very scary! It is featured on the next episode of Making The Team 4, so be sure and check it out. On top of all that, most of us spend our days stretching to make our kicks higher, soaking in Epsom salt baths, and doctoring injuries!
Training camp is the busiest time of the year for a cheerleader, so it is very hard to maintain a job and/or college classes during this time. I don't know how some of the girls do it! It is very strenuous both mentally and physically, and is ultimately a test that will prove who is right for the job of being a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader.
